Amazing Day

I had the most amazing day today! I finally got the photos of the tea (in the last post) that I've been wanting for ages. And I also started a new painting. I'm not done but so far I'm really happy with it. I worked for two hours and listened to two of my favorite Cd's, Life for Rent by Dido and System by Seal. The painting's sort of abstract, it's of a green hand. You know how in black and white photos it's just all different shades of gray? Well the hand is all different shades of green, holding something. I might post a picture of it when it's done.
I also got a new camera that I've had my eye on for such a long time. It's a Nikon D40, and it's amaazing! I put my old memory card in it and within 20 minutes I had filled the whole thing! I'm now addicted to the sound of the camera clicking. I'm sure there'll be billions of photos from the camera on this blog.

Clouds in my Tea (First Abstract)

This is my first attempt at 'abstract photography'. Although, I'm not sure if this qualifies or not. But anyway, I've been trying to get a photo of the milk in my tea for a little while. I drink two or three cups in the morning so i only have those chances to get a good photo (caffeine addict? absolutely.) I'm pretty happy with the photos, I think the second one's my favorite.

Blah Day

Today was sort of a 'blah' day, mainly because of the weather. No one really wanted to do anything so after I made myself a cup of tea I just tidied up my room a bit. I did manage to get myself to church, but I kicked myself afterwards for not bringing my camera. The church is up in the hills so there was this beautiful mist sitting on the trees. Later we had to do some shopping so I brought my camera along for the drive.

(Blurry I know, but I just thought they looked cool)

So I got home and really, really wanted to take photos outside. My mom's reaction was, "Are you insane?" and my dad's was, "Just don't ruin your camera." Haha, typical responses. These are some of the ones I got outside.

I read this interview with Floria Sigismoni (who I think is pretty amazing) a while back and saw this quote that I really loved.

"I believe that if you look at something long enough, no matter what it is, there is no reason for it not to be beautiful."

I try to remember that every time I take photos.

Annie Lennox Painting

Lately I've been taking a lot of photos so I haven't been painting very much. As much as I love photography, painting is my first love. Ever since I was little, I'd get butterflies in my stomach every time I'd start a new painting. So a few weeks ago I was watching a Eurythmics music video, Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This). For some reason I thought it would be great to do a painting from the video. So I watched it a couple times and decided what to do. If you've never seen the video you probably won't know the painting. I recommend watching it either way, the Eurythmics are classic. I haven't quite perfected it all the way. I think I've painted and re-painted about 40 or 50 times, and I'll probably end up changing it again. I've never had any formal training in art so I just try and do my best. But this is it so far!

Rain, Rain, Rain

It's been pretty rainy lately and it's been driving most people nuts. It's starting to feel like Seattle, or something! But I did get some nice photos out of it : )

Our rain barrel was over flowing!

Tonight it finally started to lighten up for a bit. So we all went on a walk and i wanted to take some photos.

Alaska Days

I admit, there are a lot of days when it's 40 below outside, that I complain about living in Alaska. But on days like these you can't help but love living here.
